Monster Madness cancelled due to threat of storms

by Rob on Oct 28, 2009 at 11:59 AM

By LANA CLIFTON

Monster Madness at Mills, an event scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, at Mills Park in Bryant has been cancelled.

Rae Ann Fields, Director of the Bryant Chamber of Commerce, which was hosting the event, made the official cancellation announcement on Wednesday after observing several different weather forecasts. According to Fields, the forecasts all showed chances of rain to be 80 or 90 percent, too big a chance to take for the all outdoor event.

“We had some great new stuff planned, so we will be ready for a great time next year,” she said.

The Lady Hornets placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 11 places to claim the crown with 42 points. Van Buren was runner-up with 71 points followed by Conway (74), Mount St. Mary (111), Russellville (126), Cabot (142), and North Little Rock (158).

As they have all season, the Lady Hornets used their “pack attack” strategy to perfection, establishing a lead pack right from the start and pretty well staying in control of the team race the entire way.

Remembering: Unbeaten 1999 season, Game 8 vs. Little Rock McClellan

Hornets in playoffs, eye conference title

By ROB PATRICK

BRYANT TIMES

Let’s put this in perspective:

The last time a Bryant Hornets football team qualified for the State playoffs, the seniors on the 1999 team had yet to start Kindergarten. They were 3 and 4 years old.The last time a Bryant Hornets football team won eight games in a season, many of the parents of those seniors were just starting elementary school themselves.

In fact, since a Hornets’ team last had a winning season and qualified for the playoffs in 1985, Bryant football teams, during one stretch, took six full seasons to compile eight wins.

And these Hornets aren’t done yet.
