CABOT — With 2:10 left in the first half, the Bryant White Hornets of Bryant Middle School had run just one play from scrimmage in their game against the Cabot South eighth grade team.

Fortunately for the Hornets, that one play went for a touchdown, a 47-yard run by Mar’kevius Nelson. It took all of 15 seconds off the clock.

Cabot, however, had had the ball the rest of the time, 11:21 to be exact as it muscled its way to a 12-6 lead. In all, the Panthers had four possessions in the game and, without throwing a single pass, scored on all four to forge a 28-6 victory.

By Rob Patrick

For the first time, the Bryant Hornets football team will be competing against an opponent that’s in the same conference but not the same classification when they host the Van Buren Pointers on Friday night.

And the Pointers, just by playing Bryant, help their post-season chances.

Pointers bring unbeaten mark into Bryant

Those wondering just how good the 4-0 Van Buren Pointers are this season are really missing the point.

You see, four wins are as many as the Pointers teams have mustered in the previous three seasons combined. Van Buren hasn’t won four games in a season since the 4-6 2004 campaign and haven’t avoided a losing record since they went 5-5 in 2001. Fact is, Pointers teams haven’t had a winning season since 1999 when they went 7-3. That was also the last time they reached the State playoffs.

So you can see why they’re excited about their football team in Van Buren.

Longtime Bryant fans can certainly relate. While Van Buren’s dry spell between winning campaigns has now reached 10 seasons, during the late 1980’s and most of the decade of the ‘90’s, Bryant teams went 13 years between winning marks. Now, the Hornets haven't had a losing season since 1998.

Dabbs interviewed by New York Times

By Martin Couch

Bryant Mayorial candidate Jill Dabbs was interviewed recently by The New York Times.

"My campaign story is a small part of a much bigger story they are doing in the south," Dabbs said. "My comments from the interview may or may not be a part of their story, which is to be released next week, but either way it was a great opportunity during this exciting election cycle that we have all found ourselves to be a bigger part of than we may have ever felt we were in the past."
