Three-year lettermen Tyler Sawyer and Kaleb Jobe, the only two returning starters for the 2008 Bryant Hornets have been named Class 7A All-State performers with classmate Justin Blankenship earning All-State second team. That trio led the Hornets to a 22-8 overall record and the championship of the 7A-Central Conference under first-year head coach Kirk Bock. All three were also named all-conference along with teammates Hunter Mayall, Ben Wells, Brennan Bullock and Garrett Bock. Mayall, a sophomore who led the team in hitting with a .429 average, was also named to the Class 7A All-State tournament team. Sawyer and Jobe are also in the running for invitations to the annual Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star game this summer.

CONWAY — Tanner Tolbert scored 19 of Bryant's 22 points to lead the Hornets to an eighth-place finish at the Class 7A State Track and Field Championships Saturday at Conway High School. Tolbert earned a state championship in the long jump with a dramatic last attempt of 21' 11.75", which narrowly edged Fort Smith Soutside's Neal Braddy by one-fourth of an inch. Tolbert also improved on his triple jump school record by seven inches to earn a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 43' 6.75". Both performances earned Tolbert a trip to Wednesday's Meet of Champions at Lake Hamilton High School. Tolbert finished up his evening with aneighth place finish in the 200 meter dash.

 CONWAY — Bryant Lady Hornet junior Jordan Chadwick became a state champion Saturday night at the Class 7A State Track Championships held at Conway’s Wampus Cat Stadium. Chadwick took control of the 400-meter dash out of the final turn and powered down the home stretch to secure her firststate title with a time of 1:00.46. Along with her second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, Chadwick led the Lady Hornets to a top five team finish. Bentonville won their third consecutive state title with 117 points. Conway finished runner-up with 105. The remaining top five teams were LR Central (64), Fayetteville (54), and Bryant with 45 points. All 16 Class 7A teams competed. “I was proud of how our team competed," stated Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook. "One of our team goals was a top five finish at state and we achieved that.” Chadwick scored 19 points to lead Bryant’s scorers. Along with her state title in the 400-meter dash, she finished a close second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.9.

There are still games to be played in the 7A-West Conference, but the seedings are just about set for the Class 7A State Tournament in Bentonville. In fact, Bentonville and Springdale play each other on Thursday, the eve of the State tourney which begins on Friday. Tonight, Fort Smith Southside plays Springdale which should determine the fifth and sixth seeds for the West. The Bryant Lady Hornets, champions of the 7A-Central will play at noon on Saturday against the survivor of Friday's first-round game between Van Buren, the fifth seed from the Central, and Springdale Har-Ber, the fourth seed from the West. With Conway's 13-3 win over Cabot on Tuesday night and a sweep of a conference doubleheader by the Rogers Mounties over the crosstown rival Heritage team, the brackets are set for the Class 7A State Tournament to be played at Fayetteville High School and Randall Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale. The Bryant Hornets, champions of the 7A-Central Conference, will open play on Saturday at noon against the winner of the Friday game between Rogers and Cabot. Rogers is the No. 4 seed from the West, Cabot the No. 5 seed from the Central. Fayetteville has won the last three Class 7A championships. Here are the brackets:
