Area Scouts, leader recognized for achievements


Scouts from BSA Troop 99 were recently honored including, above from left, Israel Alvarado, Alex Short and William Espey[more] for earning their Scout badges, the first step in the Boy Scout advancement process.

Below from left, Patrick Karp, Eli Driskill, Tristan Susoeff and Nathan McFarland each received awards at the August Court of Honor. Karp and McFarland each earned the 2nd Class rank while Driskill and Susoeff earned Star Rank, a milestone toward the highest rank in Scouting — Eagle. As such, this rank requires mastering a number of merit badges, demonstrating leadership and responsibility, as well as serving others.

In addition, Dr. John Gillespie, at bottom left, was presented the Scouter’s Training Award. Gillespie has served on the Nischa Sipo District Roundtable Staff for two years and completed requiring training. Presenting the award is District Roundtable Chairman David Elmore. Gillespie also serves as an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 99, which is part of the Quapaw Area Council and is chartered to the Salem United Methodist Church.
