Benefit bone marrow drive planned by BHS Student Senate

The Student Senate at Bryant High School will host a bone marrow drive to benefit former student,[more] Leslie Harris, on Wednesday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The drive will be held in the Bryant High School gym (building 1) at 200 NW 4th Street.

To be a bone marrow donor, one must be between the ages of 18 and 55, weigh more than 110 pounds and be in good general health. If those attending decide to be tested, they will be put on the national donor list and can be contacted through the age of 61.

Leslie Harris, 29, was diagnosed with acute leukemia on Sept. 21, 2011, the same day her son was born. Doctors performed an immediate bone marrow biopsy and found that 80-90 percent of her bone marrow was cancerous and the cancer was also in her blood. Currently, Leslie has started her second round of chemotherapy and has endured a very long couple of months of sickness and pain. Doctors tell her she only has six months to a year to live without a transplant, but she is hoping to spend every moment fighting for her life and her son.
