Bethel boys knock off the rust with 43-31 win at Lake Hamilton

PEARCY — After a 10-day layoff, the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle[more] School established a lead and held it for a 43-31 win over the Lake Hamilton Junior Wolves eighth grade team on Monday night.

Caylin Allen pumped in 16 points to lead the way. Desmond Duckworth and Philip Isom-Green added 10 apiece. Calvin Allen pitched in with 3 while Hunter Handly and Josh Bonner hit for 2 each.

“This was our first game in 10 days and it showed,” stated Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “We grave up way too many easy baskets on defense and shot very poorly as a team. The intensity and effort was there as always.”

The Hornets, now 3-1, built a 16-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 26-16 edge at the half. It was 35-25 by the end of the third period.

“I was able to play all 14 players, which is always a plus,” McGrew added. “Caylin Allen played his best game as a Bethel Hornet. Philip Isom-Green is improving daily and is starting to understand his role.”

Up next for the Hornets is a tournament at Episcopal Collegiate in Little Rock. Games are Dec. 4, 5, and 6, with the finals on Saturday, Dec. 8.
