Bock picked as head coach of East All-Stars

CONWAY – Bryant head coach Kirk Bock as been named as the head coach for the East All-Stars baseball team according to vice-president of the Arkansas High School Coaches Association, Eric Chambers of Beebe.

Chambers announced the head coaches and coaching staffs for the 2016 Arkansas Army National Guard/Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Baseball, Softball and Soccer games on June 21-22, 2016. The AHSCA also announced its selection of All-Star Athletic Trainers for the All-Star week.

UCA associate athletic director Darrell Walsh welcomed the members of the AHSCA, the 2016 All-Star coaches and media representatives during the morning press conference.

This marks the 61st anniversary of All-Star competition and the 13th for baseball, softball and soccer.

The All-Star baseball doubleheader will be played at Bear Stadium on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway on Tuesday, June 21, starting at 5 p.m. The All-Star softball doubleheader will be played at Farris Field on the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway on Tuesday, June 21, starting at 5 p.m. The All-Star soccer will be played on Wednesday, June 22, at the Bill Stephens Complex on the UCA campus with the girls’ match starting at 5 p.m. and the boys’ match at 7 p.m.

Bock who led the Bryant Hornets to the 2016 Class 7A State championship, the program’s fourth title in seven years. An old friend and a former volunteer assistant Greg Harris of Huntsville has been named the head coach for the West All-Stars.

The head coach for the East softball team will be Jerry Sharp of Pocahontas and the head coach for the West softball team is Ray Hunter of Mena.

The head coach of the East boys’ soccer team is John Proffitt of Nettleton and the head coach for the West boys’ soccer team is Cory Sturdivant of Hot Springs.

The head coach of the East girls’ soccer team is Beth Pond of Beebe and the coach of the West girls’ soccer team is Erik Smith of De Queen.

Bock’s East baseball staff will consist of Lionel Myers of Wynne, Charles Brown of Armorel and Shane Fullerton of Harding Academy. Harris’ West baseball staff will consist of Lance Spigner of Horatio, Shohn Doty of Springdale and Stephen Sprick of Dierks.

Sharp’s East softball staff will consist of David Horton of Marion, Todd Finley of Bald Knob and Josh Wright of Calico Rock. Hunter’s West softball staff will consist of Kevin Sullivan of Vilonia, Tiffany Taylor of Rogers Heritage and Jason Golden of Magnet Cove.

Proffitt’s East boys’ soccer staff will consist of Jeff Davis of West Memphis, Walter King of Searcy and Miguel Mondragon of Hamburg. Sturdivant’s West boys’ soccer staff will consist of Craig Bentley of Mena, Stan Cooper of Lake Hamilton and Stephen Peck of Rogers.

Pond’s East girls’ soccer staff will consist of Kerry Castillo of Cabot, Joseph Maxwell of Heber Springs and Kelly Young of Russellville. Smith’s West girls’ soccer staff will consist of Don Earnest of Dardanelle, Richard Rogers of Malvern and Steve Stover of Texarkana/

The All-Star Athletic Trainers are Steve Hornor of the University of Central Arkansas, Meghan Robinson of Little Rock Central, Clinton Hall of Hot Springs, Charlie Wardlaw of Sylvan Hills, Ashley Nordin of Harrison, Mandy Nash of Harrison and Jennifer Asberry of Cabot.

The 2016 Arkansas High School Coaches Association Coaches Clinic will be held on the UCA campus in Conway, June 21-24.
