Bryant 9’s continue on Regional roll

VANCLEAVE, Miss. — The Bryant 9-year-old All-Stars posted another pair of lopsided wins on[more] Sunday to move a win away from playing for the 2012 Cal Ripken Southwest Regional Tournament championship.

The Stars are set to play in a semifinal game today at 3 p.m. The championship is at 5.

On Sunday, Bryant dismissed Plainview, Texas, 21-0 in three innings, following up with a 10-0 victory over the Kingsville, Texas, Tontos.

Bryant 10, Kingsville, Texas 0

Wilson, Noah Davis and Hathcote combined on a one-hit shutout and Bryant got all the runs it would need in the first, scoring three times. Two in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth made it a 10-0 win. The final uprising was highlighted by Cooper Davis’ two-run homer.

Noah Davis led off the first with a walk. Speer singled then they moved up on a double-steal. With one out, Dillon laced a single to right-center to drive them both home. He would steal second and, with two down, score on a base hit by Clay.

Wilson had worked around a pair of walks in the top of the first, striking out two. In the second, he walked three then struck out three to force Kingsville to leave the bases full.

Kingsville managed its lone hit with two down in the top of the third. A pair of walks on either side of the hit produced another bases-loaded situation but Wilson recorded his seventh strikeout to preserve the shutout.

In the home third, two-out walks to Schroeder and Clay set the table for Cooper Davis who drilled a double to center, making it 5-0.

Noah Davis retired the side in order in the top of the fourth, striking out two more. In the fifth, Hathcote set the top of the Kingsville order down 1-2-3.

In the meantime, Bryant’s two-run fourth was sparked by walks to Riggs, Noah Davis and Speer. With two down, Dillon singled to center to plate two as the lead grew to 7-0.

Bryant made it a run-rule win in the home fifth. Clay walked and Cooper Davis unloaded on an 0-1 pitch for a two-run jack. Orender doubled and came around on singles by Riggs and McDonald to end the game.

Bryant 21, Plainview, Texas 0

Plainview only got through its line-up once as Adams pitched around a single in the first and a walk in the second. Schroeder closed it out, retiring the side in order in the top of the third.

Bryant scored 10 in the first and 11 in the second. Noah Davis got the offense started in the first with a double. Speer walked and Wilson drilled a double to make it 2-0.

A walk to Dillon and a one-out pass to Clay set up Cooper Davis’ two-run single. Orender doubled in a pair and, after McDonald walked, Adams belted a two-run double. With two down, Speer put the finishing touch to the inning with an inside-the-park home run.

The second-inning ambush began with consecutive singles by Schroeder, Clay and Cooper Davis. Doubles by Orender and McDonald kept the carousel turning. With one out, Noah Davis lashed an RBI single. Bates walked then Wilson and Hathcote singled as Bryant batted around.

The second time through, Schroeder and Clay drew walks to load the bases. With two down, Orender cleared them with a triple.
