Bryant Animal Control officer recognized for work with shelter, students

Bryant Animal Control and Adoption Center officer Rebecca Fitch has been selected[more] as one of five nationwide finalists in the “Be A Hero for Homeless Pets” campaign. In her honor, the Bryant Animal Shelter will receive 400 pounds of pet food free from Iams Premium Pet Food.

Fitch was nominated by Rebecca Bennett, her colleague at the Center, in the “Outstanding Co-Worker” category. Bennett wrote a short article about the job that Fitch did over the past holidays by working with volunteer students at the Bryant Public Schools. Fitch created a toy and treat drive called “Christmas for Canines & Cats.” The program generated over 1,000 pounds of treats and over 100 toys, which were donated to the Bryant Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Saline County.

She was selected because of her dedication to the plight of homeless animals and her work with the students on behalf of homeless pets.

Each year, the Bryant Animal Shelter participates in “Home for the Holidays”, a nationwide Pet Adoption Program hosted by the Helen Woodward Animal Center, a non-profit center based in San Diego, Calif., and Iams.

During the past holiday season, “Home for the Holidays” was supplemented by another program called “Be a Hero for Homeless Pets,” which was designed to get communities involved with their local animal shelters. It also gave recognition to those individuals who went above and beyond for their community’s animals.
