Bryant Blue rides early success to win over Bryant White in seventh grade girls battle

Riley Hill and Kendall Rogers combined for 14 points to lead the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets of Bethel[more] Middle School to a 20-14 win over the Bryant White Lady Hornets of Bryant Middle School in a seventh grade game on Monday night.

The hosting Bethel team took a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and held a 9-2 edge at the half before the Bryant White team rallied in the third quarter, cutting the margin to 12-8 going into the fourth quarter.

Reagan Blend scored 6 points and Destiny Martin 4 to pace Bryant White. Lauren Lessenberry and Hadley Dickinson added 2 points each. Dickinson hauled down 11 rebounds and Kipperlie Davis had seven. Martin led the defensive effort with four steals.

Along with the 7 points that Hill and Rogers each scored, Bethany Hutchinson, Reagan McCormick and Sydney Shipe contributed 2 apiece.

“The girls played hard,” commented Bryant White coach DeAnna Ward. “We put in a press defense and were able to score several times on it. But we have to improve our shooting and rebounding.”

The next game for Bryant White, now 1-2, will be Dec. 15 against Greenbrier. Bryant Blue, 4-2, returns to competition at home against the Anthony School on Jan. 5, 2012.
