Bryant White boys close out season on winning note after loss to future teammates

The Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School completed its season with[more] an 8-4 record after a loss to their rivals and future teammates from Bethel Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 3, and a victory over Conway Blue on Monday, Feb. 7.

The Bryant White team includes Logan Moore, Max Sullivan, Austin Montgomery, Robert Meeks, Steven Murdock, Madison Schrader, Connor Tatum, Blake Patterson, Brent Michael Barker, K.J. Hill, Kyron Smith, Bryce Bowen, Mar’kevius Nelson, Brett Fisher, Austin Masters, Hunter Oglesby, J.C. Newborn, Austin Fisher, Daniel Bradford, Blaine Hampton and Hunter Sherman.

The Blue team includes Jake Acord, Austin Green, Ryan Hall, Jason Hastings, Brushawn Hunter, Andrew Kincaid, Blaine Knight, Brian Tackett, Paul Tierney, Brandon Warner, John Winn, Mark Winn, Dylan Wolfe and Brendan Young.

In the win over Conway Blue, Hill poured in 27 points to lead the Hornets. Tatum added 8 and Oglesby 5.

Bryant White took a 13-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and expanded the margin to 22-15 by halftime. It was 36-24 going into the fourth quarter. The Hornets won 45-34.

“K.J. had a big night for us,” commented Hornets coach Heath Long. “He was able to get to the paint consistently and either score, get fouled or dish.

“I am proud of all of those guys for two years of hard work,” he added, “and I’m glad that our team was able to go out a winner.”

Against Bryant Blue, Hill finished with 21, Tatum 7 and Nelson 6. The Bethel team won 45-34.

“This is the fourth time we’ve played Bethel since last year and the first time that we’ve really given them a game for all four quarters,” Long stated. “Our kids played their hearts out but we just didn’t come out on top. I believe that when these two groups come together next year, they will see a lot of success.”

No details were provided regarding Bethel’s Bryant Blue team.
