Bryant White edges Blue in seventh grade boys game

Kajuan Robinson scored 14 points including a clutch bucket near the end of the game as the Bryant White Hornets seventh grade team of Bryant Middle School eked out a 28-26 win over the Bryant Blue Hornets of Bethel Middle School on Tuesday.

Blaise Smith added 12 points for Bryant White as they improved to 6-1 on the season.

“It was a lot like the last game, a contrast in styles,” commented Bryant White coach Heath Long, referring to his team’s 35-25 win at Bethel on Dec. 16. “When we slowed it down and played half-court, things went pretty well for us. When we let their pressure affect us and they got the tempo up, they had the advantage.”

Bethel led 10-8 after a quarter and 17-11 at the half. But Bryant White put together a 9-2 surge to start the second half, taking a 20-19 lead into the fourth quarter.

“Bethel has a good basketball team and I’m proud of my guys for fighting back after getting down a couple of times,” Long added. “Kajuan had a huge basket at the end of the game for us and we were able to hang on to win.”

Bryant White is set to head to Hot Springs Lakeside on Thursday, Jan. 30, for A and B games. Bryant Blue hosts Lighthouse Charter this Thursday.
