Bryant White eighth-grade girls win fifth in a row

Caitlin LaCerra scored 13 points in a first-quarter blitz to lead the Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School to a 40-16 win over the Sheridan Lady Jackets Monday night at the BMS gym.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Bryant White which started the season 0-2. They’ll play tonight at Cabot North.

To go with LaCerra’s 13 points, Savannah Lucas scored 5. Regan Dillon, Melissa Aguilar, Jordan Hancock and Jayla Keith each had 4 points. Daria Greer and Jayla Purifoy added 3 each.

“It was a good win for the girls,” said head coach Ben Perry. “We opened up in a press to get the tempo going and the girls were firing left and right. Caitlin scored her 13 points back-to-back-to-back, four field goals, one 3-pointer and two free throws.

“The pace continued through the game,” he related.

Bryant White led 20-4 at the half.

The Lady Hornets hit five 3-pointers in the game and converted 7 of 15 free throws.

“It was good to see the floor spread out and everyone contribute,” Perry said.

“I dropped back to half-court for the remainder of the game and we settled into a controlled game,” the coach added. “We were able to play the bench and get many girls much-needed playing time and experience. I always like it when I can get girls game-time experience, for them to build on in the years of play to come.”
