Local instructor to be inducted into ASU Sports Hall of Fame

On Saturday, Sept. 18, Keith Horn, pitching instructor at Diamond Sports of Bryant, will be inducted into the Arkansas State University Sports Hall of Fame in Jonesboro.

Horn played baseball at Pine Bluff High School during the early 1990s where, as a starting pitcher, he led the Zebras to a 4A State championship. In addition to being named the MVP of the 4A State Tournament and his selection for the All-State Team, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette selected Horn as Sophomore Player of the Year in 1990 and as Player of the Year in 1992. He was also selected to the Mizuno High School All-American Team and named the Golden Diamond Amateur Junior Baseball Player of the Year for the State of Arkansas.

Wood makes triumphant return to Majors

PHOENIX, Ariz. — After a brief return to the Minor Leagues, Bryant's Travis Wood was back on the mound for the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night. The lefty improved to 4-1 with a 2.51 earned run average in the Major Leagues this season by allowing just four hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He walked just two and struck out six in the Reds' 9-5 win.

Cubs assign Wells to 10-day camp in Arizona starting this weekend

Thanks to a change in the plans of the Chicago Cubs, Ben Wells will start what his dad, Doug, called his “dream adventure” a little sooner than expected.

The young right-hander was notified by the Cubs that they will be flying him to Mesa, Ariz., for 10 days of strength and conditioning work.
