LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Hornets earned first place finishes in four events Saturday in the 7A Central Conference track and field championships at Scott Field, but it wasn't enough as Conway used superior depth to earn the conference title. The Hornets placed third behind Conway (155 pts.) and Cabot (137.5). The Hornets third place total of 114 points is the highest total for Bryant at a conference track meet in recent memory. Russellville (98.5), North Little Rock (69), Little Rock Catholic (53), LR Central (15.5), and Van Buren (13.5) rounded out the scoring in the meet which was hosted by Little Rock Central. "I'm really proud of how the guys competed,” commented Hornets coach Steve Oury. “The conditions were really tough, with winds blowing at over 30 miles per hour for much of the day. Having a conference meet in one day is really tough and, to be honest, it's not fair to the athletes. The 7A-West had a two-day meet and finished their meet on Thursday.

PEARCY — At the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference Track Championship Friday at Lake Hamilton High School, the Bryant Junior Lady Hornets won six events, scored 119 points, and set three new school records, but it wasn’t enough to take the team championship away from Lake Hamilton. Competing with only 14 athletes in a competition that includes 16 events and three entries allowed per event per school, the Bryant girls simply did not have enough depth to secure the title, said Bryant track coach Danny Westbrook. Lake Hamilton won the meet with 134 points. Bryant had to settle for runner-up, just 15 points behind with 119. North Little Rock finished third with 106 points followed by Cabot (94), Conway (81), Sheridan (55), and Benton (28).
