Cubs trade for Wood made official

The scene of a couple of the finest moments of his brief Major League career, Wrigley Field in Chicago will now[more] be the home turf for former Bryant High School and American Legion baseball star Travis Wood.

The reported trade of Wood, a left-handed starter, and a couple of prospects to the Cubs from the Cincinnati Reds for left-handed reliever Sean Marshall was made official today.

In July 2010, Wood made his Major League debut for the Reds against the Cubs in Wrigley Field and allowed just two hits in seven innings. He also won a game at Wrigley in August of 2011.

The Cubs made the deal to bolster their starting rotation, which only has three spots solidified with no left-hander in the mix of potential starters at this point. The Reds, meanwhile, had a glut of starters.

If Wood becomes a mainstay on the staff for a few years, it could develop that another former Bryant star could join him. Ben Wells is a prospect in the Cubs’ Minor Leagues.
