Early success sparks Blue seventh grade team past Bryant White

The Bryant Blue Hornets seventh grade team jumped out to an early lead then held on for a 25-18 victory over the Bryant White Hornets of Bryant Middle School at the Bethel Middle School gym on Thursday.

Blue went 8 for 8 from the free-throw line to help secure the victory.

Ethan Hilkrit and Cade Drennan each scored 8 points for the victors. Kayleb Webb added 5 points and Brandon Weems 4.

For Bryant White, Arlon Jenkins finished with 5 points. Darrick Rose and Keyshaun Scott had 4 apiece.

“The seventh grade team is continuing to improve and play better every game,” said Blue coach Dominic Lincoln. “I’m really proud of their effort this week in practice.”

“We got down early and put ourselves in a hole that we could not dig out of,” said White Hornets coach Heath Long. “We didn’t shoot the ball very well and missed a lot of short shots. We had a hard time scoring against their zone as well.

“We fought to get back in it,” he added, “but we just could not manage to score enough points to win.”

The Bethel team finishes out the season next week, hosting Lighthouse Charter on Monday then Cabot North on Tuesday.

The Bryant Middle School team concludes its season on Saturday in a tournament at Cabot.
