Freshman girls can’t get past North Little Rock

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The latest bid of the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman volleyball team to turn the tables on the North Little Rock Lady Charging Wildcats wound up being just as frustrating as it had been in three of the four previous meetings between the two teams.

The Lady Hornets absorbed a 12-25, 13-25 setback.

“North Little Rock played lights out,” said Bryant head coach Lawrence Jefferson. “They dug up all our hits. They hit really well. They served really well. They out-played us in every aspect.”

The Lady Hornets were limited to just six kills in 71 attacks (8.5 percent).

Grace Sams had two while Brooke Abney, Camille Rawls, Grace Camferdam and Ivory Russ finished with one apiece. Kalina Weaver had two assists. Sophie Kennedy, Lexi Brown and Meredith Medford added one each.

“The best thing we did tonight was blocking,” Jefferson said. “Truli Bates had three and Casey Welch had two blocks.

“We got 90 percent of our serves in play but didn’t get to serve very often,” he noted.

Bryant only had two service errors, in fact, but struggled to hold serve with just 26. They had five aces, two each by Sams and Medford and one by Kennedy.

Defensively, Sams led the team with 12 digs. Erin Thompson and Cora Edwards finished with 10 apiece and Kiarra Beard eight. Beard and Weaver came up with five each.

The Lady Hornets will try to get back on track on Monday when they host Conway Blue.
