The Bryant Hornets freshman team will be playing for the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference[more] regular-season championship and the top seed for the league’s post-season tournament when they host the Conway Blue Wampus Kittens tonight at the Bryant Middle School gym.
The Hornets were put back in a position to capture the title when it was ruled on Friday that North Little Rock, which defeated the Hornets in overtime 49-43 on Jan. 30, had to forfeit that game because an ineligible player was used in the game (and scored 14 points). The player had been ejected from the previous game for the Junior Cats and thus was supposed to be held out of the next game against Bryant.
The Hornets subsequently lost at Little Rock Catholic as well which put them in a position to actually finish as the third or fourth seed in the tournament, which they will host starting Thursday.
With the decision on the forfeit, North Little Rock and Bryant switch spots in the standings.
Conway Blue comes into tonight’s game 4-3 in conference with a chance to win and, with some help, move up from the number five seed.
The Hornets defeated Blue 42-34 in a non-conference game at Conway on Jan. 7.
In the freshman girls game, which will commence at 6 p.m ., the Lady Hornets will make a bid at upsetting Conway Blue, which is set and the fifth-place spot as well.
