Grand Opening celebration for Bishop Park planned

Four years and nearly $20 million later, the city of Bryant now has one of the most state of the art parks in the entire South.After years of planning and months of construction, The Center at Bryant in Bishop Park will[more] official hold its Grand Opening on Jan. 20 at 11:30 a.m.

"In what began as a dream in 2006, built upon hope and faith has finally come to fruition," said Jeremy Lemons, Bryant Parks Director.

Mayor Jill Dabbs, the Bryant City Council, People for Parks and the citizens of Bryant will be in attendance with Dabbs speaking about the new park.

"It's awesome," she said. "This is one of the best parks in the state and it's here in Bryant. Now the swimming pool is open for the kids."

The festivities begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a luncheon catered by Jordan's BBQ for $8 per person. A tour of The Center, which offers state-of-the art cybex fitness and cardio equipment, indoor basketball and volleyball courts, heated therapeutic swimming pool, junior olympic 8-lane swimming pool, a tenth-mile indoor walking track and the senior activity center.

Starting at 4 p.m. the Bryant Sports Organization will be on display in the gymnasium. On showcase will be the Baseball Association, Softball Association, the Bryant Soccer Club, and the Racers and Baracudas swim team. Hot dogs and drinks will be served at The Center from 4 to 7 p.m. and other fun activities for the entire family.

    Did we not vote for this park to be built for 16.5 Mil… why are they over the budget so much and why is this not making the news ? Just because it was passed does not mean they had the right to spend more money than what the voters approved. I mean in construction a 5% difference is one thing, but this is alot of overage that was spent on this park and its not even done.
