BENTON — The Bryant All-Stars put together three-run outbursts in the[more] third and fourth innings to build a 7-4 lead over Hamburg Saturday only to see their opponent rally for two in the fifth and two in the sixth to extract an 8-7 win.

Bryant’s loss ended their run in the 2011 Cal Ripken 12-year-old (46/60) Southwest Regional at Bernard Holland Park.

The 46/60 team include Landon Abernathy, Ethan Cozzens, Dylan Davis, Lawson Fincher, Austin Hooper, Audrey Horn, Jared Morales, Jake Roedel, Kyle Sahr, Joseph Small, Logan Valestin and Diego Vargas. Manager is Rob Roedel and his assistants are Keith Horn and Brian Hooper.

“We have a great group of boys and parents on this team,” stated Coach Roedel.

Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Small singled, advanced on an error and scored on a two-out double by Morales who was thrown out trying to get to third on the play.

Hamburg struck for three in the third but Bryant answered with three of its own. Sahr started the inning with a walk. An out later, Vargas and Hooper smacked singles and Roedel reached on an error to tie the game. Walks to Small and Fincher forced in the go-ahead run.

Hamburg tied it in the fourth but it didn’t stay that way long. In the home half of the frame, Abernathy reached on a one-out error, Vargas walked and Hooper reached on an error that got the go-ahead run home. With two down, Valestin came through with a two-run single to produce the 7-4 advantage.

Hamburg cut it to 7-6 in the fifth and, in turn, Fincher was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning. He eventually made it to third but was stranded.

So when Hamburg scored two more in the top of the sixth, it took the lead. Vargas led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk but he was thrown out trying to steal and a pair of strikeouts brought the game to an end.
