Hornets back in action tonight at Conway tourney

The Bryant Hornets basketball team returns to action tonight in the opening round of the Bank of the Ozarks John Stanton Wampus Cat Invitational at Conway High School. They’ll take on Conway, an old rival from their years in the Central Conference. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m., at Buzz Bolding Arena.

The Hornets were set to compete in the OrthoArkansas/Baptist Health Invitational Tournament over the weekend at Central Arkansas Christian Academy in North Little Rock. They got in their first game, a 70-67 win over Little Rock Catholic (another old Central foe) but the rest of the tourney was cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Seniors Grayson Giles and C.J. Rainey combined for 41 points in the win. Freshman Romen Martin made his first varsity start and added 10 points with sophomore Kevin Hunt coming in off the bench to get 8. The Hornets are 1-1 so far this season.

The weather affected the brackets for the Conway tournament, which was originally scheduled to start Monday night. The games on Monday, along with the Fayetteville-Pine Bluff game originally set for tonight, were postponed until Wednesday.

The only games tonight will be the Conway girls against West Memphis at 7 and the Bryant-Conway tussle at 8:30.

The Bryant Lady Hornets, meanwhile, are playing in the Cabot Pre-Holiday Tournament. They’re set to play Watson Chapel on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., in a first-round game that was originally slated for Monday.
