10.5BoysLWFAYETTEVILLE — In the massive 75-team, 562-runner high school division of the annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival at the University of Arkansas on Saturday, the Bryant Hornets finished 23rd overall and fourth among teams from Arkansas.

“This was a great experience,” stated Bryant coach Steve Oury. “The weather was perfect and we got all the competition we wanted and then some.

“We had some solid performances,” he noted. “Charlie Terry may have started the race a little too fast, which cost him some time, but he hung in there and still ran a good race. It was good to see John Carder, Connor Wilson, and Ben Majors be within about 10 seconds of each other. Eric Stewart and Mark Winn both ran personal records, so I feel like we are headed in the right direction.”

Terry led the way for the Hornets with a 45th-place finish in a time of 16:26. Carder (149th in 17:16), Wilson (190th in 17:26), Majors (192nd in 17:27), Stewart (241st in 17:44) and Winn (248th in 17:46) followed. Dru Wen (293rd in 18:05) and Nicholas Schmidt (312th in 18:16) completed the Hornets squad.

“Next week, we will be hosting the Bryant Invitational at Bishop Park, so we want to be ready to defend our home turf,” Oury mentioned. “The rest of the guys who didn’t run at Chile Pepper are ready to get back in to action, so I’m looking for us to have a good meet next Saturday.”
