Hornets finish regular-season with sixth place in stout field at UALR meet

LITTLE ROCK — In a 14-team meet that included the deep squads from[more] Little Rock Central, Catholic, North Little Rock and Conway, the Bryant Hornets finished sixth at the Central Arkansas Invitational swimming and diving meet at UALR on Saturday.

The diving competition was held Thursday and, among four teams, Bryant finished a close second behind Conway.

The Hornets will compete at their District meet this Saturday at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia with designs on returning to UALR for State competition later this month.

Saturday, the Hornets swimmers finished with 158 points. Central won the meet with 358 to Catholic’s 313. North Little Rock was third at 280 with Conway fourth (222) and Mountain Home fifth (181).

In the dive meet, Conway had 43 points to Bryant’s 38. North Little Rock finished with 20, all from individual winner Jace Forrest. Conway and Bryant each had three divers contribute to the scoring. The Hornets’ contingent was led by Justin Combs, who was fourth with a score of 137.85. Lucas Reitenger finished seventh (110.10) and Scott Mead eighth (96.40).

The top swimming performance for the Hornets came in the 400 yard freestyle relay when Andrew Ball, Jim Dellorto, Nick Hoffpauir and Ross Grant combined on a 4:19.79 to take fifth.

Mead contributed a sixth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 1:14.20.

The Hornets picked up eighth-place points in the 200 free relay with Dylan Rogers, Jake Tipton, Hayden Stewart and Casey Ball combining on a 1:44.59. Ball’s 57.66 was good for eighth as well in the 100 free. Tipton was 14th in 1:00.60.

Rogers added a ninth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.05) with Andrew Ball 16th (1:22.91). Casey Ball, Rogers, Stewart and Tipton placed ninth in the 200 medley relay, with a time of 2:01.73.

Casey Ball was 12th and Tipton 14th in the 50 free. Ball finished in 25.89 with Tipton touching in 26.63.

Stewart garnered 14th-place points in the 200 individual medley (2:42.02) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.29) while Hoffpauir collected a point for finishing 16th in the 500 free with a time of 6:49.19.
