Hornets unable to overcome Rockets’ fast start

LITTLE ROCK — For the Bryant Hornets soccer team, spring break didn’t come at the best of times. It’s not that they got any less work than other teams, it’s just that they were just beginning to kind of find their way before the break with back-to-back wins and three in their last five matches.

But, upon their return on Tuesday night, things weren’t quite the same particularly in the first half against the 7A/6A-Central Conference rival Little Rock Catholic Rockets.

The home-standing Rockets ran up a 3-0 lead by halftime on the way to a 4-0 victory over the Hornets.

“The second half, we played much better,” stated Bryant coach Jason Hay. “The first half wasn’t very good. Against a good team, you can’t come out and play flat. We looked a little scared.

“We had some chances in the second half but we just couldn’t get anything to fall,” he added.

The Hornets have the rest of the week off before they play another 7A league rival, Conway, at Bryant Stadium on Tuesday, April 7, before traveling to De Queen for a non-conference match on Thursday, April 9.
