CABOT — At the Walmart Junior High Cross Country Championship held at Cabot Saturday, the Bryant Junior Lady Hornets ended their season finishing runner-up with 97 points. Lake Hamilton won the meet with 78 points. Cabot finished third with 122 points. There were 11 full teams in the race.

The Junior Lady Hornets had six team members receive top 30 medals, led by eighth-grader Jenna Freeman who finished 10th with a time of 13:28. Eighth-grader Caitlyn Bell finished close behind in 11th place with a time of 13:31.

“I was really proud of our girls for going to the front and racing hard,” stated Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook. “We had talked about this being our last meet and we wanted to end the season running our best. We have three ninth-graders that were moved up to the high school early in the season that I feel like would have made a big difference if they had been racing.

“Coach Rhonda Hall and Coach Deanna Porter, our middle school coaches, have done a fantastic job with our runners this year,” he added. “With the talent I have seen this year, I think our Bryant cross country program has a very bright future.”
