Junior Hornets make it 2 for 2 with title at Bryant Invitational

The Bryant Junior Hornets scored their second consecutive victory of the season Thursday[more] evening at the Bryant Hornet Invitational at Bishop Park. The Junior Hornets scored a total of 56 points to outpace Little Rock Catholic (67 points), Vilonia (70), Russellville (118), Pulaski Academy (145), Episcopal (167), Central Arkansas Christian (168), and HS Lakeside (168).

Ben Majors was the first Bryant runner across the line, placing third in a time of 11:37. Stephen Cockmon (10th in 12:15), Joey Colvert (12th in 12:18), Jhorman Cruz (17th in 12:32), Zane Pittman (18th in 12:33), Michael Higgs (19th in 12:33), and Chandler Reep (20th in 12:34) rounded out Bryant’s top seven runners. Eight teams and 141 runners completed the race.

“That was a great victory for these guys,” stated Hornets coach Steve Oury. “Some of them were concerned about not having Charlie Terry on the team, since he was moved up to the senior high team. Several guys answered the call and ran great races to help make up for not having Charlie.

“Ben Majors is doing a great job as a team leader,” the coach added. “Stephen Cockmon ran a heck of a race, as did Joey Colvert. These are some great guys to coach, and I know Coach (Deanna) Porter at Bryant Middle and Coach (Kayla) Daniels at Bethel are really proud of their boys.”

The Hornets will be in action again on Sept. 22, in the Bryant Magic Mile Festival at Hornet Stadium.
