Mini-grant will help City complete bridges at Bishop Park

The Bryant Parks & Recreation Department has announced the receipt of a $1,000 mini-grant from[more] the Blue & You Foundation towards its Bishop Park Community Gardens. The funds are intended to be used to help erect one of two bridges linking the Aquatic Center parking lot to the 1/3 acre gardens.

Currently, the City is awaiting final permit approval from the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers to build the bridge across the creek way located west of Bishop Park Center. The new bridge will allow for the closest, most efficient access to the 50 garden plots.

“We are thrilled to receive support for our project”, said Brandon Griffin, Recreation Superintendent for the City of Bryant. “I could not tell you enough how important the Blue & You Foundation has been for both our project, as well as other Growing Healthy Communities throughout the state. They deserve a lot of credit for their investment into Arkansas communities.”

In addition to its continued involvement with the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention (ArCOP), the City of Bryant was recently named a Growing Healthy Community (GHC) in 2013 and is slated to host the 2013 Central Arkansas GHC Summit on Monday, June 24, at Bishop Park Center. Registration for the event is free at www.arkansasobesity.org.
