Progress of District’s construction projects updated for Board

Construction around the Bryant School district is right on schedule, according to Construction[more] Manager Richard Stipe, who reported to the Board of Education during its December meeting on Monday night. Hill Farm Elementary School has steel being raised and all slabs and site utilities are complete as well, he said. The Springhill and Salem Elementary projects are on track to begin construction very soon, Stipe added.

The Board approved the guaranteed maximum price for both the Hill Farm and Springhill projects as provided by Clark Construction. Hill Farm came in at $17,814,596 and Springhill at $2,981,596.

Member Joe Wishard was recognized at the beginning of the meeting for his commitment and service to the Board. Those serving on the Board are required to complete six hours of training per year. In 2011, Wishard acquired 74.75 hours of training. Since he was elected, Wishard has completed 214 hours.

In addition, the Board approval the hiring of a full-time interpreter at Bryant Elementary School for a deaf student that is currently enrolled.

Also, Pierce Purifoy, a fifth grade student at Davis Elementary, was recognized for winning an essay contest sponsored by the Saline County Justice of the Peace J.R. Walters and County Judge Lanny Fite. He was selected out of over 1,000 entries and interviewed live by KATV weatherman Ned Perme during the Channel 7 news broadcast.
