It didn’t start out too bad but, as the second quarter unfolded, it got that way.

The improved shooting that helped the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team defeat Cabot North and play Lake Hamilton tough, has been prevented by their last two opponents.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, the Lady Hornets were held to 11 points by the North Little Rock Lady Charging Wildcats freshmen. And, on Monday, Dec. 4, they struggled again, managing just 10 points in a 53-10 victory by the Conway Blue Lady Cats.

The Lady Hornets made just 4 shots in only 24 attempts as they turned the ball over 24 times.

However, with 4:32 left in the second period, they were in the game, trailing just 15-7 on a stickback by Lauryn Taylor.

But the Lady Hornets didn’t score against until just 2:34 remained in the third quarter. In the interim, Conway Blue improved its lead to 39-7.

The Lady Cats ran out to a 9-1 lead before Ashton Inman hit Bryant’s first field goal, a driving layup off a turnover. It was 13-3 before Kaitlyn Weng hit a 12-footer with 10 seconds left in the opening quarter, making it an 8-point game at the first break.

Conway Blue scored first in the second quarter then Taylor made it 15-7.

It was 30-7 at the half and 50-10 going into the fourth quarter, as the Lady Hornets just had one of those nights against a taller and talented Lady Cats’ crew.

Addison Funk led the Lady Hornets with 3 points in the game. Along with Taylor, Weng and Ashton Inman, who had 2 each, Abbey Inman provided the only other point on a free throw early in the contest.

The Lady Hornets will host Mount St. Mary Academy of Little Rock on Thursday in hopes of notching their second Central Arkansas Junior High Conference victory.
