Second-half outburst leads to lopsided win for Hornets JV

The Bryant Hornets junior varsity team ran out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a[more] 45-20 win over the Lake Hamilton JV at the Hornets Nest on Monday night.

Leon Neale scored 10 points, Aaron Bell and Luke Rayburn added 8 each to lead the way. Marcus Wilson finished with 7, Logan Trudell 6, Travis Royal 4 and Strodney Davis 2.

Neale and Wilson each had 4 points in the early run. Lake Hamilton rallied within 15-10 but Rayburn nailed a 3 and the Hornets maintained an 8-point edge until halftime. They led 22-14 at the break.

In the second half, Trudell hit the offensive boards for a three-point play and, after Bell hauled down the carom off a Wolves’ miss, Trudell buried a 3 from the corner as the lead ballooned to 28-14.

Bell followed with a 12-foot jumper, a steal and a layup. Davis kept the run going with two free throws then Neale hit a driving jumper to make it 36-14.

Lake Hamilton added a free throw but the Hornets resumed the run when Neale hit the offensive glass for a backet, Bell made another steal and layup then Neale beat the buzzer with a 15-footer to make it 42-15 going into the final period.

Wilson capped what turned out to be a 23-1 blitz by canning a 3-pointer with 4:56 left in the game.
