Shooting appears to be murder-suicide

Two people were shot to death outside a Bryant medical facility on the morning of[more] Monday, Jan. 23, in what appears to be a murder-suicide, police officials said.

The bodies of Jenny Marie Cavender, 39, of Bryant, and her ex-boyfriend, Ronnie Odell Stewart Jr., 38, of Maumelle were found outside the Saline Memorial Hospice, where Cavender worked as a nurse, said Bryant Police Department spokesman, Sgt. Todd Crowson.

Witnesses told police Cavender was leaving work. Her body was found in her Cadillac sedan, which was filled with bullet holes. Stewart was outside the car. A 40-caliber semi-automatic gun was found nearby, and Stewart’s car was also at the scene.

A witness called 911 to report a man had shot many bullets into a car. It is apparent he then turned the gun on himself, Crowson said.

Cavender had recently moved to Bryant from Conway to be closer to her job and had an order of protection against Stewart on Dec. 13, in Lonoke County.

No official rulings have been made yet that it was a murder-suicide, but the police “are leaning that way,” Crowson said.

More information will be released as the investigation continues.
