Thomas, Robinson spur Hornets frosh to second at league meet

PEARCY — The host Lake Hamilton Wolves junior high track team won eight of 15 events to amass 123 points to capture the championship of the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference meet on Thursday. The Bryant Hornets freshman team, led by first-place finishes in the jumping events from Josh Robinson and Randy Thomas, finished second with 100 points. Russellville was third with 77.5, tying Benton. Conway Blue was fifth with 69 points followed by Cabot South (56), Conway White (39), Cabot North (26) and North Little Rock (17).

Robinson won the high jump, clearing 5’11”. Russellville’s Jakobe Donald was second at 5’9” with Thomas’ 5’4” tying Dalton Pugh of Benton for third.

Thomas won the long jump with a leap of 20’4.5”. Pugh was second at 17’7.5”. Robinson was fifth with a leap of 18’3.5”.

Thomas also contributed second-place finishes in the 100 and 200, dueling Lake Hamilton’s Latrell Young in both events. In the 100, Young broke the tape in 11.24 with Thomas right behind him at 11.52. In the 200, Young ran a 23.62 with Thomas finishing in 23.95. Braden Williams finished eighth for the Hornets in 25.10.

Andrew Hayes was second in the triple jump at 40’10”. Conway Blue’s Carey McClain won at 42’8.5” with Bryant’s Malek Holman sixth (38’6.5”).

Hayes, Holman, Robinson and Thomas teamed up in the 4×100, finishing fourth in a time of 46.71. In the 4×400, Hayes, Robinson, Thomas and Hunter Ulmer turned in a 3:55.14 clocking to finish fourth.

Chris Barrientos ran a 4:46.94 in the 1600, finishing second only to Lake Hamilton’s Colby Swecker who ran a 4:44.78. Swecker won the 800 as well (2:07.02). Barrientos was fourth in 2:13.59 with Chris Morgan fifth (2:17.78) and Joshua Nelson eighth (2:19.37) for the Hornets.

In the field events, Michael Chatmon’s discus throw of 132’10” earned third-place points.

Ulmer was fourth in the 400 with a time of 56.54 while Sam Perryman took fourth in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 44.31.

In the 4×800, Jake Dreher, Ben Sellers, Isaac Silos and Kevin Weng ran a 9:24.89 to finish fifth.
