Tough day for BHS netters at Rebsamen

LITTLE ROCK — Pitted against some of the best players in the state, the Bryant High School tennis team had a rugged time at Rebsamen Park on Tuesday. On the boys side, the Catholic Rockets swept four matches and, on the girls side, the Mount St. Mary Academy Belles, did the same.

In the boys’ matches, Bryant’s Hayden Brown fell to Parker Stearns of Catholic, 0-8, at No. 1. At No. 2, Blake Cunningham absorbed a 2-8 loss to Myers Simpson.

The girls singles matches went to Mount’s Brooke Buckner, 8-0, over Bryant’s Stephanie Smith. Margaret Lucas won at No. 2, 8-1, over Kristen Walker.

In doubles play, Mount’s No. 1 duo of Conley Norris and Ty Noona won, 8-1, over Shelby Jones and Jayda Allen. The No. 2 team of Greer Norris and Hannah Lukacs prevailed, 8-0, over Haylee Scott and Abby Johnson.

Catholic’s Steven Weeks and Henry Nolen combined on an 8-0 win over Brady Moore and Broc Ingold. Bryant’s Landon Cobb and Caleb Plunkett also fell 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Bryant will face another challenge at Conway this Thursday. The BHS team will host West Memphis on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Burns Park.
