“The only thing I’m disappointed in is the score,” declared Bryant Hornets soccer coach Jason Hay after his team’s 2-0 loss to the Conway Wampus Cats at Bryant Stadium Thursday night. “We played well, just unlucky, and Conway got the shot they needed.”

The Hornets actually attempted twice as many shots as the Cats, taking 15 without a payoff. Conway could only get seven shots away but two of them found the mark in the second half.

“We pinged the posts several times,” Hay noted.

Keepers Jon Sohn and Logan Valestin each had saves for the Hornets.

The loss dropped the Hornets to 12-6 overall, 4-4 in the 7A/6A-Central Conference but, most importantly, 1-3 against fellow 7A members of the league with two matches left on the schedule both against 7A conference teams. On Tuesday, May 3, the Hornets travel to Van Buren, needing a win to clinch a spot in the Class 7A State Tournament, set for Springdale May 12-14.

“It’s a huge game on Tuesday,” Hay acknowledged.

Bryant won over Van Buren at home on April 12, 2-0. The Hornets’ final match is at home against Little Rock Catholic on May 6.
