Trio of Bryant swimmers qualify for State at sprint meet

LITTLE ROCK — Bryant’s Lindsey Butler, Ploy Freebairn and Michael Higgs turned in State-qualifying times at a sprint meet held at the UALR Natatorium and hosted by Little Rock Catholic High School on Tuesday.

Butler qualified in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 free. Her 25.77 clocking in the former was the best time of the day. Pulaski Academy’s Allison Taylor also qualified with a time of 26.28 and Freebairn just missed the cut. Her time of 26.61 was third best and just short of the 26.50 mark to qualify.

In the 100, Freebairn’s 58.35 was the top time of the day and Butler’s 58.46 was second best as both qualified. Ande Harris (58.89) and Katie Jacoby (59.44) of Pulaski Academy along with Brianna Hanley of Mount St. Mary Academy (59.48) also turned in qualifying times.

Bryant’s Jessica Butler was just off the 59.65 qualifying mark, finishing in 1:00.30.

Higgs qualified in the boys 100 with a time of 53.14. It was the third-best time of the day. Thomas Heye of Little Rock Central turned in a 50.34. He qualified along with second-place Jacob Toland of Catholic (51.74) and fourth-place Josh Hale of North Little Rock (53.90).

In the boys 50, Heye (22.80) and Toland (23.15) were the only swimmers to top the qualifying mark of 23.50. Higgs was Bryant’s top finisher. His 24.09 was sixth overall with Chandler Reep eighth in 24.54.

Bryant is set to host a full meet this Thursday at the Bishop Park Aquatic Center.
