Weber’s diving, 200-yard relay team lifts Lady Hornets to third

CONWAY — The Bryant Lady Hornets finished a strong third at a swimming and diving competition hosted by Conway High School on Thursday. With 412 points, the Lady Hornets finished on the heels of Fayetteville, the team champion with 515 points, and Conway (478). Sylvan Hills was a distant fourth with 162 points in the 12-team field.

Bryant’s lone first-place finish came in the one-meter dive, where Sara Weber beat out Anna Kathleen Harris of Conway. Weber earned a 147.90 rating with Harris at 132.20. Bryant’s Jaden Heath was sixth at 53.60.

The lone second-place finish was turned in by the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Lara Kockaya, Kayla Vaughan, Ella Reyonds and Jessica Butler, which touched in 1:48.55, behind only Fayetteville at 1:456.92. The Lady Hornets’ quartet of Sophie Williams, Dayanna Maldonado, Weber and Hailey Addison was ninth in 2:08.33.

Bryant was third in two relays and an individual competition. Reynolds was third in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 26.96. Butler was fifth in 27.36.

Each had a hand in the relays. In the 200-yard medley relay, Butler, Vaughan and Kockaya teamed with Taylor Wilson to finish third with a time of 2:09.65. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, it was Wilson, Erin Vaughn, Hannah Tennison and Reynolds who took third in 4:29.99.

In the 400 free relay, Lucie Van Roekel, Maldonado, Taylor Vaughn and Leela Hoerschelmann combined on a 5:18.69 clocking, good for eighth-place points. In the 200 medley relay, Hoerschelmann, Addison, Erin Vaughn and Taylor Vaughn finished in 2:20.63 to place ninth.

Kockaya and Butler each turned in fourth-place finishes. For Kockaya, it came in the 200 individual medley. She finished in 2:33.42 with teammates Hailey Addison (eighth, 2:48.25) and Taylor Vaughn (12th, 3:22.59) also picking up points.

Butler was fourth in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.50 with Vaughan seventh in 1:03.02.

Reynolds took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 1:15.68. Hoerschelmann was sixth in 1:17.14, Kockaya eighth in 1:17.71 and Jasmine Small 13th in 1:22.21.

Maldonado led the Bryant contingent in the 100 butterfly and the 200 free. Her time in the fly was 1:16.23 and picked up sixth-place points. Erin Vaughn was seventh (1:16.71), Hannah Tennison eighth (1:21.05) and Hoerschelmann 11th in 1:26.24.

In the 200, Maldonado was seventh in 2:28.37 with Wilson ninth in 2:30.26 and Erin Vaughn 11th with a time of 2:37.49.

Snell was seventh in the 500 free with a time of 7:20.57 while Addison took ninth in the 100 breast stroke with Erica Legate 15th (1:44.66) and Van Roekel 16th (1:45.67).

The Lady Hornets return to competition at home on Thursday, Dec. 7.
