Whirlwinds escape with win over Bryant freshmen

RUSSELLVILLE — The Bryant Hornets freshman team rallied from a 15-5 deficit at the end of the first quarter to pull within 3 of the Russellville Whirlwinds on Monday night but couldn’t get over the hump in a 54-44 setback.

The Hornets were within 29-20 at the half and trailed 39-34 through three quarters.

“We came out very slow and sluggish,” noted Hornets coach Tyler Posey. “We played our way back to within 3 in the third and the fourth quarters but could not complete the comeback. Russellville responded to our pressure very well.”

Henry Terry hit four 3’s to help fuel the Bryant rally. He finished with a team-high 12 points. Randy Thomas added 11 and Rodney Lambert 10. Alex Blair scored 7.

The Hornets will return to action at the annual Kameron Hale Invitational at Lake Hamilton on Monday, Dec. 28. They’ll open against Malvern at 11:15 a.m.
