White Hornets bounce back from first loss to edge Cats

CONWAY — After suffering their first loss of the season in a nail-biter at Lake Hamilton on Monday, the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School bounced back on Tuesday with a 22-18 win over the Conway Blue Wampus Cats eighth grade team.

Kajuan Robinson scored 14 points, Daelin Drake 6 and Blaise Smith 4 to lead the way.

Only one point was scored in the first quarter of the game and it was Conway Blue’s. By halftime, the two teams got it going some. They were tied 6-6 at the intermission. The Hornets surged to a 14-11 lead by the end of the third quarter.

“It seemed like there was a lid on the basket for most of the first half,” acknowledged Hornets coach Heath Long. “We played a little more aggressively on offense in the second half and it showed. We played well defensively and were able to grind out a win. I felt like we responded well after our loss the night before and we’ll start getting ready for Bethel next Thursday.”

Bryant White, now 5-1, hosts Bryant Blue on Thursday, Dec. 11.

In the loss at Lake Hamilton on Monday, Smith scored 12 points with Robinson and Drake adding 4 apiece.

The Hornets led 6-3 after a quarter and 11-10 at the half. Lake Hamilton tied it at 17 by the end of the third quarter.

“We played well defensively but just did not have a good night on the offensive end of the floor,” Long said. “It was disappointing to lose but we will learn from it and move on.”
