White Hornets outscore Conway Blue, improve to 9-3

Jake Wright led three players in double figures with 14 points as the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School clipped the Conway Blue Wampus Cats, 47-41, on Tuesday night.

Blaise Smith added 11 points and Daelin Drake 10 for Bryant White, which built a 14-12 lead in the first quarter and expanded it to 27-18 by halftime. It was 37-30 going into the fourth quarter.

“Conway Blue was vastly improved from the last time we played them,” said Hornets coach Heath Long whose team beat Blue 22-18 on Dec. 2, 2014. “And it wound up being a much different game. There were more points than that scored in the first half tonight.

“We didn’t expect them to pressure us like they did,” he added. “But we handled it well. We have also been battling some sickness so we were not at full strength. We did a good job of not letting those things affect us and picked up a good win.”

Bryant White, now 9-3, hosts Bryant Blue this Thursday then wraps up the season at Russellville on Monday, Feb. 9.
