The Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School, still short-handed because of injuries, fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter and never quite recovered as the Watson Chapel Wildcats eighth grade squad escaped with a 28-17 win at Bryant Middle School gym Thursday.

The Hornets cut it to 14-9 at the half but struggled again in the third quarter on offense as the Wildcats built a 13-point advantage.

“We played good half-court defense and rebounded well but struggled to score against a bigger and more athletic team,” noted Bethel coach Derek McGrew.

Keith West led the Hornets with 8 points. Luke Curtis added 4. Matthew Sandidge and Parker Ray finished with 2 each. Brandon Shirlee hit a free throw.

Now 1-1, the Hornets return to action on Monday, Nov. 25, at Benton.
