The Bethel Middle School 2009 Spring Concert was presented Tuesday night, May 12. Led by Greg and Sotonya Gordey, Bethel Middle School has almost 200 students in its program. The Gordeys do an exceptional job leading the students in music and strive to instill value into each of the students’ lives. So, they spend extra time above and beyond music emphasizing education and teamwork. They believe that music has a direct correlation in laying a secure foundation for education. The Gordey’s quote various sources such as Bands Across America that says, “Students with band and orchestra experience attend college at a rate twice the national average.” And B. Friedman says, “Music students out-perform non-music on achievement tests in reading and math.”
The program was entitled Disney Mania and featured the Beginning Band playing the selections “Wolly Bully”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Serengeti Dreams” and “Surfin’ U.S.A”. The Bethel Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Jon Doty performed “Kaleidoscope” by Chris Crockarell. The combined Concert and Symphonic Bands played “Shreck Medley”, “Jurassic Park” and “Disney Blockbuster” which was a medley of Disney favorites “Under the Sea”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “A Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World” arranged by John Higgins.[more]
