BHS teams return to action in tournaments (brackets included)

The Bryant High School basketball teams get back to action today as the Hornets travel to[more] Russellville for the 2011 Cyclone Classic and the Lady Hornets head to Fort Smith for the 15th annual Deepsnap Tournament of Champions.

The Hornets varsity hasn’t played since their 48-39 win at Benton on Thursday, Nov. 22. Today at 5:30 p.m., they’ll face the Camden Fairview Cardinals to start the Russellville tourney. It’ll be the first meeting between the two teams since the Hornets and Cardinals played in the same conference, the old 5A-South, in 2001-02. (See comments for correction.) Bryant will play Friday and Saturday as well.

The Lady Hornets are coming off a 2-1 showing in the annual Crabtree Invitational Tournament in Bentonville. They also play at 5:30 today against the host Fort Smith Northside Lady Grizzlies. It’ll be the first meeting between the two teams since Northside ousted the Lady Hornets from the Class 7A State Tournament in the second round at the end of the 2009-10 season. The Lady Hornets will also play on Friday and Saturday.
