Black Sox denied in ‘The Hagan’ championship game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — For the second year in a row, the Bryant Black Sox Senior American Legion team reached the championship game of the Keith Hagan Memorial All-American Classic only to be denied the championship.

The Sox, who had won six straight games at the event including a 4-3 win over the Rawlings Recruits earlier on Tuesday, absorbed a 4-1 loss to the Ontario Blue Jays in the title contest.

Earlier in the week, Bryant had downed the Blue Jays, 2-0.

In addition, The Bryant Everett Black Sox Junior American Legion team ended its run in the 17-and-under division of the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Birmingham Baseball in bracket play.

The Junior Sox were 2-3-1 at the tourney.

Details will be posted when they become available.

The Senior Sox, now 17-4-2, begin play in the annual Southwest Illinois Firecracker Classic in Alton, Ill., on Friday, July 3. They’ll play Fairview Heights and Festus, Mo., on Friday then Jefferson City, Mo., and Barrington, Ill., on Saturday in pool play.

The Junior Sox are set to return to action on Thursday at North Little Rock.
