Boys finish strong third at Conway meet

CONWAY — Three teams among the 10 at a swimming and diving meet held in Conway last Thursday separated themselves from the rest as Conway, Fayetteville and Bryant each accumulated over 300 points. Conway, however, amassed 662 to win the boys division. Fayetteville had 427 and Bryant 325.

The Hornets were unable to win and event, the depth and talent of Conway was so dominant but Caivon Crosby was second to Conway’s Cullen Odom in the one-meter dive and the Hornets were third in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breast stroke and the 400 freestyle relay.

Crosby finished with a score of 173.40 to Odom’s 186.30.

In the 200 medley relay, Alex Ball, Gavin Miller, Dylan Althen and John Dellorto finished in 1:54.68 to place third. The quartet of Carson Edmonson, Payton Schanks, Zachary Milam and Tristan Hoershelmann was ninth in 2:13.43.

Ball took third individually in the backstroke, turning in a 1:02.75 clocking while Dellorto scored with a 13th-place finish in 1:1.16.

Miller as third in the breast stroke. His time was 1:13.74. Hoerschelmann was eighth in 1:17.14 and Jackson Treat added to the scoring with a 12th-place finish in 1:27.67.

In the 400 relay, it was Cameron Loftis, Dellorto, Hayden Smith and Hagan Austin turning in a 4:05.53 to take third. In seventh was the Bryant group of Donte Baker, Will Gordy, Chapman Redam and Jalen Dinstbier with a time of 4:37.03.

The next best finish for Bryant came in the 200 free relay. Ball, Ivan Bryant, Edmonson and Althen finished in 1:46.35 to place fifth. The team of Austin, Smith, Miller and Gordy was seventh in 1:51.91.

In addition, Ball was eighth in the 200 individual medley. He finished in 2:19.21 with Althen 13th (2:48.61) and Milam 14th (2:54.68).

Tenth-place finishes went to Carson Edmonson in the 100 free with a time of 58.53 and Dylan Althen in the 100 butterfly in 1:11.94.

Also in the 100 free, Austin was 12th in 59.88 with Smith 15th in 1:01.14 and Miller 16th in 1:02.76. In the 100 fly, Tristan Hoerschelmann was 11th in 1:13.83, Loftis 13th in 1:19.28, and Dinstbier 14th in 1:25.71.

Dinstbier led Bryant’s group in the 500 free, finishing 12th in 6:33.75. Loftis was 13th in 6:35.00 with Milam 14th (7:46.02) and Radam 15th (8:02.38).

Austin was 13th in the 50 free with a time of 26.43. Smith was 14th in 26.50.

In the 200 free, Edmonson garnered 13th-place points at 2:19.03.

The next meet for the Hornets will be Thursday, Dec. 7, at Bishop Park.
