Bryant 6’s prep for State with tourney title at Cabot

CABOT — The Bryant 6-year-old All-Star baseball team prepared to their State Tournament which begins this Friday in Sherwood, with a tournament championship at the Panther Classic over the weekend.They wrapped up the title by thumping a team from Jacksonville 13-5 then, in the championship game, downing Cabot 14-1.

The Bryant 6 year olds, coached by Matt Orender with assistance from Patrick Schroeder and Jimmy Pennington, include Luke Bessire, Clay Curtis, Cooper Davis, Josh Day, Peyton Dillon, Gavin Glasgow, Austin Ledbetter, Jagger Littleton, Justin Orender, Brett Pennington, Austin Schroeder, and Blaine Sears.[more]

Bryant 14, Cabot 1

Bryant scored the maximum of six runs in each of the first two innings and, after Cabot scored in the third, added two in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach.

The first-inning began with one-out singles by Pennington and Ledbetter before Glasgow belted a home run to right-center. With two out, Littleton singled, Curtis doubled and Sears tripled in succession. A base hit by Bessire brought Sears home with the sixth run.

In the second, Day singled and scored on a triple by Dillon. After Davis lined out to second, Schroeder and Pennington got things going again with singles. Ledbetter doubled and, with two down, so did Orender. Littleton’s single to center brought Orender home with the sixth run of the inning.

Cabot put together a trio of hits for its run in the third. Bryant got the third out when the third hitter tried to stretch his single into a double and was thrown out by Bessire in right.

In the bottom of the inning, Curtin and Sears each slapped base hit, Bessire doubled in the first run and singles by Day and Dillon brought around the second to end the game.

Bryant 13, Jacksonville 5

A six-run first put the Bryant Stars on the road to victory and they scored in each of the four innings to dash Jacksonville’s comeback hopes.

Schroeder led off the game with a double then Pennington drilled a triple to center to start the scoring. Ledbetter’s single to center made it 2-0 before Glasgow and Orender swatted doubles. Littleton’s infield roller was misplayed and he eventually reached third on the play. He scored the sixth run on a single by Curtis.

In the second, Dillon tripled in Day who had singled with two down, making it 7-0.

Jacksonville got on the board in the a run the bottom of the ining but Bryant scored four in the top of the third. Schroeder’s double got that uprising going. An out later, Ledbetter hit a triple to center and Glasgow followed with a three-bagger to right-center. Orender’s single made it 10-0 and, after Littleton grounded into a force at second, singles by Curtis, Sears and Bessire brought him around.

Jacksonville stayed alive with three runs in the bottom of the inning but, again, Bryant trumped that in the next frame, scoring five times.

Dillon’s second triple instigated things. Davis singled him in and Schroeder beat out an infield hit. He was forced out at second on a grounder by Pennington. With two away, Glasgow got the carousel going again with a double followed by a triple by Orender. Littleton singled him in to make it 16-4.

Jacksonville tried to keep its chances alive in the bottom of the fourth but, after a run scored on a force out at second, Bryant infielders hauled in consecutive pop ups to end the game.
