Bryant 8’s win two tourneys, finish second in another

6.18sylvan-hillsThe Bryant Future Hornets 8-and-under All-Stars captured two tournament championships and finished second in a third in recent weeks.

On May 23-24, the Future Hornets won the Tournament of Champions kid-pitch tournament in Benton. On June 6-7, they won the Battle of the Bats at Sylvan Hills, a machine-pitch tourney.

The roster for those two tourneys included J.T. Allen, Brayden Beenken, Gavyn Benson, Carter Brown, Aaron Cook, Avery Heidelberg, Drake Holland, Landon Jackson, E.J. Keith, Braxton Speer, Aiden Stout, and Hudson Thomason.

The team was coached by Darren Hurt, Jerry East, Brad Benson and Jeff Jackson at Benton. Brad Chism, Jackson and Benson coached the team at Sylvan Hills.

On June 12-14, the team, coached by Chism, Jackson, Benson and C.J. Brown coached a team at the Lonoke All-Star Tournament where they took second place in a machine-pitch event.

The team included Allen, Beenken, Benson, Brown, Cooper Chism, Heidelberg, Holland, Preston Howlett, Jackson, Keith, Speer, Stout and Thomason.

Aiden Stout was MVP of the Tournament of Champions in Benton.

At Benton, the team defeated the Arkansas Travelers, 4-3, then the Benton Panthers 8-1 on Saturday. On Sunday, they claimed a 1-0 win over Benton and beat Play Ball Arkansas 4-0. Stout was named the Most Valuable Player.

At Sylvan Hills, the team defeated the host team 9-0 on Saturday, June 6. A 7-3 win over the Junior Deputy 8’s of Little Rock followed. On Sunday, they defeated Sylvan Hills 7-0 before edging Benton 9-8. In a rematch with Junior Deputy in the finals, Bryant prevailed 16-1.

In Lonoke, Bryant opened with a 4-3 win over Junior Deputy on Friday. On Saturday, they drilled Stuttgart 10-1 before Benton handed the Future Hornets a 7-5 setback. On Saturday, Bryant fought back through the losers bracket, downing Junior Deputy 4-3 and Stuttgart 9-6. A 12-0 win over the Benton 7’s set up a rematch with Benton in the finale. Benton prevailed 5-2.
