Bryant White captures girls’ title at NLR tourney

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School captured the championship of the North Little Rock Invitational Tournament Thursday night with a 29-11 win over the E-Stem Lady Mets.

Celena Martin scored 10 points, Tierra Trotter and Tiyanna Robinson each had 7 to lead the way. Ivory Russ finished with 3 and Kinley Oholendt scored 2.

“E-Stem has a very tough team with good guard play and a 6-3 post player,” noted Lady Hornets coach Kenny Hays. “Our team did a great job of putting pressure on their guards and making it difficult for them to feed the post. And our post defenders did a great job fronting their posts while also keeping them off the boards.

“It was a very scrappy game for four quarters,” he added. “But our defensive pressure finally wore them down. Our team gave a tremendous effort throughout the entire tournament.”

Now 4-0 on the season, Bryant White will be off until Monday, Nov. 30, when Lake Hamilton visits.
