Jordan Hancock scored 18 points for the Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School and the Lady Hamilton Lady Wolves eighth grade scored 19 altogether Monday night at the BMS gym. The Lady Hornets evened their record at 2-2 this season with a 38-19 win.

Bryant White forced 24 turnovers – 16 in the first half when they rolled up a 22-2 lead.

Caitlin LaCerra added 6 points, Regan Dillon 5, Daria Greer 4, Jayla Keith 3 and Brandy Strickland 2 for the Lady Hornets.

“Right before the game, I challenged them,” said head coach Ben Perry. “I said I need you to put four quarters together. I said you can beat this team.

“Lake Hamilton’s a great team,” he noted. “They’re very well coached. They’ve got some great shooters.”

But the Lady Wolves were 1 of 12 from the field at the half, 3 of 26 going into the fourth quarter.

“I told them we needed to come out with great hustle and intensity for four quarters,” Perry mentioned. “All year, we’ve been playing for three quarters. We could put two quarters or three quarters but never a four-quarter game. We needed to be focused and to play with intensity.

“They did very well tonight,” he continued. “I was very proud of them. We got a lot of turnovers. I thought we did very well in that aspect. There’s still some things we’ve got to clean up offensively as well as defensively. But I was proud of the way they played tonight.”

Dillon opened the scoring in the game with a 3-pointer. Hancock made a steal and a layup to make it 5-0.

Late in the quarter, Dillon canned a 15-footer and, after a Lake Hamilton timeout, LaCerra took a feed from Hancock and hit a layup to make it 9-0.

The Lady Wolves scored the first basket of the second quarter but would not score again in the half. Hancock hit a 12-foot jumper then Keith drilled a 3. Hancock drove for a layup then LaCerra scored off the offensive glass to make it 18-2.

With 1:58 left in the half, Hancock scored as she was fouled. Though she missed the free throw, Strickland was there to grab the loose ball and score to make it a 20-point halftime lead.
