The Bryant White Lady Hornets seventh grade team of Bryant Middle School made its official 2015-16 debut Tuesday night and, though they got better as the game went along, couldn’t overcome an early deficit. The Cabot South Lady Panthers held on for a 22-18 win.

Lauryn Taylor led the Lady Hornets with 10 points. Kristyn Weng added 6 and Kaitlyn Weng 2.

“Our seventh grade girls team gave a tremendous effort,” said Bryant coach Kenny Hays. “We were battling first-game jitters, which caused us to have way too many unforced errors. And we missed 11 free throws.

“Hopefully, we will learn to settle down and play with more poise and confidence once we play a few more games,” he added. “But I was very pleased with our effort in battling back from a 10-point deficit in the second half to get within 2 late in the game.”

The team is scheduled to play at Bethel on Thursday.
